Thank you for a wonderful Home Page for Barbara Cartland. She would have loved the idea I'm sure. I have read her books since early teens and now they are like old friends that I take with me in a pocket wherever I go for a quick escape even for a few moments. I have collected about 150 books over the past years through used bookstores and the odd one new. If anyone is willing to sell their copies give me an e-mail note! I don't know why I collect them - maybe the history, the setting, the characters and the values are all something I wish I were living in. Goes back to a simpler time. Again thanks for honouring Barbara so beautifully!

Barabara Cartland's wonderfully clear yet romantic descriptions of period fashions caught my interest, sent me to the library to find out more, and influenced my eventual choice of career as a historical costumer. She will be missed.

I grew up literally with Barbara Cartland. My sister introduced me to her novels when she discovered me reading her Harlequin at age 11. I've always been a great reader and I still appreciate the trip back in time with Barbara's various sets. Barbara was also my greatest history teacher. From reading her novels, I was always ahead of my class in history, especially when it came to England and it's way of life, landmarks, events. Her death is regretable but I am confident that one day I will meet her.

We have been great followers of the wit and wisdom of Dame Barbara Cartland and were devastated to learn of her demise. While we understood her desire to have a private and sombre funeral we feel that her life should be celebrated and will therefore be hosting a memorial 'pink' garden party in her honour. We feel this is a fitting tribute and hope that others will follow our lead.

May she rest in pink.

True fans!

I am the publisher of Romantic Times Magazine (www.romantictimes.com). Dame Barbara was my mentor and a dear friend for some 20 years. I was invited to her funeral, which was perfectly organized by her (years ago), and included takiing a leaf from her Queen Elizabeth Oak Tree (she is buried underneath it). I will be preparing an special tribute in the summer issue of my publication, and we're planning a Barbara Cartland Castle Tour in Great Britain for her 100th birthday/anniversary, July 90, 2000. If you would like to join the tour, or receive a copy of our publication (which reviews all romance novels) do contact me. I am visiting her son at Camfield Place on the 23rd of June. If you see this week's issue of "US Magazine," not only are the dates of her life over the logo on the front cover, but there is a half page tribute inside, with a quote from me. The last time I saw her, I said, "Barbara, you will probably live to be the oldest woman in the world," and she said"I don't want to be, because all my boy friends have passsed over!" She was brilliant, kind, and a treasure. Kathryn Falk, Lady of Barrow, email: barrowlady@aol.com

Barbara Cartland is a great writer! Although I am only 12, I have a high reading level and read THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE (The Narnia series)by C.S. Lewis by 1st grade, and I'm one of the lives she's touched. I have only begun reading Barbara Cartland's books because I happened to stumble on a book that I hadn't yet read at my house (that was a miracle) and it was one of her novels. I sat down and read it in one night. The next day, I went to the library and checked out all the Cartland books I could find, which was only seven. I was hoping they would keep me happy for a while, but they only lasted for a week. And that's where I am today. I'm hoping that another library has some others of her books that I can read. She's the greatest author I know of!

I have read Barbara Cartland for many years, but in recent years not as much as earlier on. I have always been fascinated by history and she brought it to me like no one else has done. Plus, in a time with concern about AIDS and other diseases brought about by sex, her novels have been a breath of fresh air to those who want to read about what real love can be.

I have read a few of Barbara Cartland's books and I understand your desire to find all of her books. I grew up in the North and found alot of her books there as I moved farther South I saw less of them. When I was still in high school I tried to find most of Dame Cartland's books. Now the different stores usually have the reprints with new covers. Good luck in your search.

I have been a big Barbara Cartland fan since I first saw "A Hazard of Hearts" and "Duel of Hearts". I have since been fortunate enough to collect 260 of her books. I have never read one of them that I did not LOVE! I am still lokking for them all the time. This is one person that I will mourn for a very long time. This world was a far better place for having such a fabulous Lady in it. Anyone that knew her or was able to read just one of her books is all the better for the experience. I had the immense privilege and pleasure of being interviewed by BBC World Service Radio this past Sunday on Dame Barbara's writing, style and influence, after news of her passing. Never, ever, in my wildest dreams did I think I would be interviewed by the BBC, but as a fan I was pleased to be able to express my love, respect and admiration for this lovely, romantic, patrician lady who provided us with an exquisite "dream world" of courtly manners, glass coaches, princes on white horses and chaste maidens who were worthy of marrying into this realm. She was in love with love, and in love with life, and she knew that these two were synonymous. She is in Good Hands now, and we'll always have her magnificent novels. God Bless. Much love, Jan

Your site on Barbara Cartland is very nice. I found it useful in many ways. Thank you for putting it together.

Undoubtedly, she was a very prolific writer, and her books are immensely popular world-wide. She will be certainly missed by people of all ages all over the world.

I have a couple of questions: (1) Has any of her novels won any literary awards? (2) Out of her 723 novels, which ones would be considered the top 5 or 10?

If anyone would care to answer, I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks again, for an excellent info centre on this remarkable lady of our times. Best wishes.

I was saddened to hear of Barbara Cartland's death. Her prolific writing made her seem ageless and the sudden announcement of her death was almost hard to believe. I grew up reading BC books and I am SO glad she NEVER compromised her belief in purity before marriage. In spite of living in an age when virginity is thrown away in a moment and sex outside marriage is accepted and even expected, she refused to let the level of her characters sink to that depth and continued. She will be missed.

The passing away of Barbara Cartland is almost like the end of an era, the end of romance such as she conceived it. I wonder how the relationship between men and women would shape up in the future. We are dealing with too much reality. Too much ugliness. Too much sorrow. Too much anger. Too much pain. In her novels Barbara provided an escape into a world where human redemption is possible.

Romance will never be the same again. Perhaps we will never ever see it the way Barbara painted it for us. Reality will toughen our sensibilities and make us cynical. Is this good for us? Only time will tell. But I suppose her books will survive, if only because we cannot stop dreaming of the possibilities she spreads before us in her stor

I am doing a stroll down memory lane. At 40 years of age I can still claim to have read and enjoyed her books at a time in my teenage life when things where bad at home and all I had then was her books as a means of escaping from my troubles. I discovered her books by accident at the local library and was hooked instantly. Normally, I did not really believe in a "Happily ever After". Through reading her books it was a possibility. After finish reading one of her books I always had a smile on my face because they brought such joy in my life. Once in awhile, I would still come across a book and naturally I would buy it immediately and still after all these years her books would still have me smiling at the end. I am sorry, that I never took the time to write her to say what her books mean't to me. When I get to heaven I will be sure to let her know. May she rest in peace.

I've been reading Barbara Cartland novels since I was sixteen and I love them, but I've always read them in Spanish. I use to collect them, but unfortunately I gave them away when I left home for college. Later, I started to exchange old novels in a magazine stand, so now I only own a few. I'm trying to get other books, but they seem to be scarce. My first visit to the Barbara Cartland Home page was and still is a tremendous schock, because it was the day after she died. It is as losing a friend, someone who has tought me so much, who has shared so much, and was a great example to me and many others in this hard world. The kindness, the obvious guidelines between good and bad, the historical facts and the general education in her books were for me a guideline to live my life. I only have about 50 books, but I am trying to get more. The many times I have visited the places Dame Barbara described in her books, I had the feeling it was not the first visit. It felt like a familiar place. Her descriptions were so accurate and lifely. I will keep on searching for books. She will always be with me, and with all of her fans thruw her books

Hello! I, too, am a Barbara Cartland fan and have been one since elementary school, when I became tired of the kiddie books and began reading my mother's books. I, too, own quite a few Barbara Cartland books ... Can't tell you bow many; I'll have to count. After divorcing and moving to a small apartment, I came really, really close to discarding them a couple years ago. I am glad I didn't. Every now and then I pull a book out and reread it.

I'm sure Cartland's books have been ridiculed by many. Yes, the plots often seemed the same. Yes, she perpetuated that old double-standard when it came to the sexes. She was definitely a nationalist; and a couple of the books indicated more than a bit of racism (I am African-American). But I couldn't help it; I enjoyed the novels. And learned a lot about history, especially historical fashion. Until reality clunked me on the head in my adult years I, too, thought I'd find a prince and be able to stay "virginal" until I found that prince. Ah well ...

I am a columnist for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper in Little Rock, and was saddenend to find her obituary in our Monday paper. My column for Sunday, May 28, will be dedicated to her.

I was just on my way to work when I heard of the sad, sad death of Barbare Cartland, the queen of romantic fiction and lover of the colour pink.

She sold over a billion books and in her own words wrote "only about love, real love and NOT ABOUT sex". She was putting out books since 1923 and their were so many good ones, so beautifully written.

My dear friend, Paul Isaacs, British journalist has always loved her work and will be devestated. He wrote a review in the London Times that spoke of a "evanascent relic who knew true romance" and I think he meant it.

My love to Barbar and to Paul.

Rest in Peace.

Hi,

I too collect Dame Barbara's books, in a very small way. I usually pick them up at charity shops and boot sales. I do not know how many I have as I have not counted. I have yet to come across a book where she used my name for the heroine though I live in hope as obviously it would qualify as it ends with an a as all her heroines' names did. My favorite books are the early ones such as Elizabethan Lover and Loves is an Eagle. I do have one book published under her true name of Barbara McCorquindale.

Hi, I like your pages and I am sorry to read that you are ill. Since you openly mentioned it, I do not think it rude to ask what your illness is.

I ask because I am in remission from a disease by taking a lot of vitamins. They are not the ones of Barbara Cartland's, I do not think.

With the passing of Dame Cartland, your books will be very be harder to find. She wrote 723 books. Perhaps a bookstore in Great Britain could help you to track down a list or her publisher would be glad to help you.

I hope you get better.

Dear Mrs.Tomason,

I write to you after the "Queen of Romance" left this world. May be you know that Dame Barbara believed in life after death, so let's hope that she will continue writing her rose-tinted stories in heavens. We all need some romance. Unfortunately, I have not read any of her books but I would like to do so as a tribute. She was so prolific! How many are her books? 623 or 723?

I found your site through bbc on line. I am sad to learn that you have problems by an ongoing illness as you say.Well, I wish you strength and I send you a hug and a smile!

We both enjoy reading Miss. Cartland's outstanding story's. I also fell like I get to travel to the new and exciting places with each character. I have found most of Barbara Cartland's books at the Salvation Army stores and a Rainbow Book store. My mother also found some books at yard sales. If anyone could help me find more of the Barbara Cartland books published by Bantam Books it would be of great help. Thank you so much for this page. Having read her books for the past 40 years, I feel as though Dame Barbara has become a personal friend. I was just a teenager when I first saw a book by Barbara Cartland in our school library. It was purely accidental. Actually, I was looking for a different book (a Mills & Boons) when I saw Dame Barbara's book. I got interested because of the cover. As I've nothing to do and the book I was planning to borrow was out, I decided to borrow the BC book instead. The title of the book was "Kiss the Moonlight." Since then, I've read every single BC book in our library. In short, I got hooked and have searched every bookstore I know just to buy her books. So far, I own over a hundred BC books and I never get tired of reading them. I still read every single one of once in a while to refresh my memory. I would surely die if I do not read a book of her for a day. Now, I'm now 29 yrs old, happily married and have been blessed with 2 wonderful children. My eldest is a girl and vows that she would also read BC books when she grows up. I'm glad for I know that she would also enjoy reading them as I did. For those who will read this, pls feel free to send me an email. I'd appreciate it very much knowing that there are still people who loves Dame Barbara Cartland's books from all over the world - people who still believe the old-fashioned love, pure and eternal, the Barbara Cartland way.

I currently own about 350 of her books and I am continually looking for more. I am so glad that there are still young people in the world who appreciate old fashioned romance and I think this will keep her books going strong long after she has left us.

I have been also waiting for her to publish her new series of books, but I haven't found anything. Please let me know if anyone discovers anything new from her.

I have been collecting Barbara Cartland books for years and have about 300. Some are doubles but I read them so much that I need doubles of some. My favorite is The Taming of Lady Lorinda which I have gone through one and am working on my second coppy.

Several years ago I read one of her books about a young English girl that wound up in America and was injured. This girl was heavy and when she came out of her coma she was thin. He husband returned and no one told him that the girl he saw was his wife. I loved the book but had to give it back to the person who loand it to me. If you or anyone knows the name of that book please let me know.

I'm still finding Barbar's books at flea markets and yard sales but they are getting few and far between.

Do you think it would be possible to get Ted Turner to rerelease the movies he made?

Keep up the good work with this web site.

She used to read her stories in Spanish in women's magazines and I have been hooked since I read my very first novel "Punishment of a Vixen" at the age of 10. We have collected a good 300+ books as well and I have kept a list (although not as thorough) of what we own.
